About

Clay Orange is the new moniker of Canadian songwriter/multi instrumentalist Ross Macnab.

“The name is the result of a creative writing exercise with the intention to start a new chapter in my music writing career and artistic exploration. The words rolled off the tongue well together. It makes me think of a feeling that is warm and tranquil. It makes me think of a sunset, or a landscape on another planet. It reminds me of an abstract and surrealist style of visual art or creativity.

The music is centered around a reflection on the unknown, the infinite depth of the subconscious, the raw and visceral emotions that drive us and the desire to find meaning.”

Macnab released his debut EP, titled “Nothing Is Yours” on January 27th via indie label Unbelievably Spectacular. It garnered local attention and has amassed over 150K streams to date. The project was fueled by a run of live performances Macnab played throughout the spring and summer of 2023 in Canada. He’s shared the stage with other acts such as local hero’s Sleepy Gonzalez, Post Modern Connection, Che Aimee as well as Minor Gold, SHEBAD, Edwin Raphael and many others. He also performed at International music festival NXNE to promote the release in July. He performed at the Documentary Premier of “Only A Ride”which featured two of his songs and was hosted by Patagonia.

The upcoming debut full length album, titled “Deeply”, is a collection of songs written over the past 10 years and through many different phases of Macnabs life. “There were many songs that I had accumulated over time that were in consideration, however these selected 9 recordings have connective themes and flowed together welll to create a cohesive body of work.” The album was mixed by Jackson Gardner and Mastered by Harris Newman. The album is scheduled to be released in early 2024.
